As the darkness goes on, maybe I can get numb to it.
The bullying continued throughout that year. They even used my mom’s call as justification for beatings and harassment. The beatings were much worse after her phone call to Jeff’s mom. They had dragged me into the bathroom a couple of times from the hallway and punched and kicked me. There was a new trend of kicking kids in the groin which I got to endure much of. It was painful and debilitating. When a male is kicked in his privates, it sends him to the mat like a bag of rocks. And I got to experience that many times as they found me and slapped me around. Looking back on it, they were careful not to punch me with fists except in my leg or arm so as not to draw any blood. But they would slap me endlessly and kick me when I collapsed to the ground.
On one day in particular I was in the bathroom during lunch. I had scanned the lunchroom to see where Jeff was to make sure it was safe for me to go to the bathroom. I had to check because sometimes the janitor’s closet was locked and I couldn’t use the mop sink. While I was in there, two of his minions came in. One stayed there, and the other left to find Jeff in the lunchroom. Within a minute he was there, and they guarded the bathroom door. He held me down and pushed my face into a toilet and flushed it. We called that a swirly. It was a stupid thing but the demeaning affect was brutal. Then he held me up against the wall and gave me a talking to. He told me that having my mom call his mom meant that he would kill me. He said I needed to suffer because his mom got pissed and whooped his ass after that call. He was actually angry that I wasn’t willingly taking his torture.
And after he yelled at me with his boys laughing at me behind him, he slapped me in the face so hard and punched my stomach. I collapsed to the ground out of breath and crying. They all laughed and ran out of the bathroom. I’m not sure how long I laid there feeling sorry for myself and crying but it felt like forever. I looked at myself from outside and was ashamed at what I saw. It made me cry harder, and I just laid there.
At some point a teacher came into the bathroom. He came over and helped me up. He displayed some mild concern at why I was crying but as I felt comfortable and looked him in the eye; he shifted and interrogated me why I wasn’t in class. And why was I laying here on the floor crying? It wasn’t a sense of concern or that he needed to intervene in something he was just concerned why I was not adhering to the schedule and in a classroom at the moment.
